On February 10, 2025, processions and prayers were held on the Greek islands of Santorini and Amorgos, praying for an end to the ongoing earthquakes that have affected the region since late January. According to orthodoxianewsagency.gr, over 800 tremors with a magnitude of 3 or higher have been recorded on Santorini since January 31, including a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on February 5. In response, authorities declared a state of emergency and began evacuating both residents and tourists.

On the feast day of Saint Haralambos, Metropolitan Amphilochios of the Greek Orthodox Church of Tiros reminded the faithful that Saint Haralambos is the patron saint against disasters and illnesses and called on them to pray. Despite the threat of further tremors, many parishioners gathered in the church, demonstrating their faith.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the clergy and congregation took part in a procession carrying an icon of Saint Haralambos and the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary "Jerusalem," asking for divine protection.

Metropolitan Amphilochios emphasized: "The events of the past days cause great concern. However, fear and any danger in our lives have not only emotional but also spiritual significance. They teach us to seek the source of peace, love, and light – Jesus Christ."

As reported by TASS, on February 6, the Greek Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection declared a state of emergency on Santorini due to the ongoing earthquakes, which have persisted for weeks. The state of emergency will remain in effect until March 1. According to Greek television channel ERT-News, over 7,700 earthquakes have occurred around the islands of Santorini and Amorgos in the past 10 days, with 108 tremors registering a magnitude of 4 or higher. Fortunately, there have been no reports of destruction or injuries.

Local media reports that authorities are continuing to monitor seismic activity, with predictions suggesting it may last for several weeks or even months. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and follow safety precautions. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also addressed the residents of Santorini, urging them to stay calm.
