On March 3rd, a fire broke out in one of the cells of the Skete of Saint Panteleimon, which is part of the Kutlumush Monastery on Mount Athos. According to vora.gr, the fire in the cell, located near the administrative center of Athos, Karyes, started at 9:40 in the morning.
Five fire service vehicles were involved in extinguishing the fire. The main task of the firefighters was to prevent the spread of the fire to neighboring cells, where dozens of monks reside. Many monks from neighboring cells assisted in fighting the fire. Some monks from Karyes rushed to help upon seeing the flames.
According to available information, the cell building is almost completely destroyed, and efforts are currently underway to save the church. Monk Theofylaktos, who lives in the cell, was unharmed.
