From January 20 to January 22, Orthodox residents of Yakutsk will be able to pray in front of the relics of St. Innocent of Moscow, the enlightener of Yakutia, at the Spassky Monastery. The shrine will be located in the monastery as part of a missionary procession through the Far East.
St. Innocent (Veniaminov), Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, played a key role in spreading Orthodoxy and culture in Siberia and America. He was the rector of the Spassky Monastery in 1853-1860 and stayed here several times during his travels. Thanks to his efforts, the first translations of the Holy Scriptures into the Yakut language were made, as well as the alphabet and grammar were developed.
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Orthodox Missionary Society in the Name of St. Innocent of Moscow will organize a Missionary procession with the honorable head of St. Innocent of Moscow to the dioceses of Siberia and the Far East in 2024-2029. This missionary action was named "The Second Missionary Journey of St. Innocent of Moscow."
The beginning of the procession is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the missionary ministry of St. Innocent of Moscow (1824-2024).
The Missionary procession is scheduled to end on October 6, 2029, at the Trinity Sergius Lavra, on the day when the Russian Orthodox Church will celebrate the 150th anniversary of his righteous death (1879-2029).
The procession with the honorable head of St. Innocent of Moscow will pass through 38 dioceses of Siberia and the Far East, including the places of his apostolic exploits, and will be accompanied by missionary activities.
