A Divine Liturgy was celebrated by a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
With the blessing of the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and Southeast Asia, since November 14, Priest Stanislav Rasputin and reader Sergei Gefaldo have been making a trip to Papua New Guinea.
On November 19, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the city of Port Moresby, at which local residents who had already converted to Orthodoxy and were undergoing catechesis prayed. The service was performed in English and partly in the local language — tok-pisin.
Every day there are meetings with both previously catechumenized Christians and new ones who have never heard of Orthodoxy before. The locals are very religious and after conversations about Orthodoxy, they often show a desire to learn more. After each conversation, the opportunity is given to ask any questions, and here the locals show the depth of religiosity by asking questions that indicate not superficial interest and curiosity, but sincere and God-seeking hearts.
Further plans include a trip to remote settlements in the north of the island for meetings with communities interested in Orthodoxy.
