The Church of the Nativity of Christ, built in the 19th century in the city of Yuryuzan, Chelyabinsk region, is awaiting a large-scale restoration. The Russian Ministry of Culture has begun searching for a contractor who will develop a restoration project for the temple, which is recognized as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.

The Church of the Nativity in Yuryuzan was built on the site of a burnt-out wooden monastery between 1895 and 1897 and consecrated in 1904. Inside there was a carved gilded iconostasis, the walls were decorated with murals, and a central dome towered over the altar. But in 1930, the domes were destroyed, the iconostasis was dismantled, and the bells were melted down. The former temple building first housed a club, and then a cinema. In 1991, the church was returned to the faithful. The upcoming restoration should preserve the building for future generations.
At the end of August, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation announced a competition to develop a restoration project. The initial cost of the contract is almost 30 million rubles. Applications will be accepted on September 12. The contractor is given 500 days to prepare the project.
The future contractor will have to carry out engineering studies, in particular, examine the foundation and soils; make accurate architectural measurements; perform stereo photography of the building inside and outside using laser scanning technology. The final restoration project should include planning and technical measures to bring the building into compliance with fire safety, safe operation and energy efficiency requirements.
