On September 11, 2026, the day of the Beheading of the head of the Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John, the patronal feast was celebrated in the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist in the city of Kandalaksha.
The Divine Liturgy was led by the rector of the parish, Priest Valentin Masnev. During the divine service, the parishioners offered prayers to St. John the Baptist.
At the end of the Liturgy, the faithful, according to established tradition, ascended the Cross Mountain. There they worshiped the cross erected on the site of the lost shrine, which was erected by St. Theodoret of Kolsky in the 16th century.
The current cross was erected on September 11, 2006. Thus, on the day of the patronal feast, exactly 20 years have passed since the restoration of the memorial cross, which testifies to the centuries-old history of Orthodoxy in the Kola land.
