The Holy Synod of the Cyprus Orthodox Church has initiated a national fundraising campaign to support Christians in Syria, who are facing persecution and severe hardships. The campaign will take place on the fifth Sunday of Great Lent, April 6, 2025, in all parishes across Cyprus.

In a message published on the Cypriot Synod's website, the urgency of the situation is emphasized: “We are witnesses to the sorrow, pain, and tragedy of our Orthodox brothers in Syria.” Special attention is given to the crisis facing the ancient Antiochian Patriarchate, whose congregation has significantly diminished due to years of conflict and persecution.

Drawing from its own historical experience of persecution, the Cyprus Church expressed full solidarity with the Antiochian Church and all Christians in the region. The statement stresses that the Church will “do everything in its power” to support those suffering.

The Synod called on the faithful of Cyprus to respond to this initiative and make donations: “We sincerely appeal to your hearts and urge you to show generosity.” The funds collected during the services will be directed toward helping the needy Christians in Syria.

The document concludes with a prayer for God's blessing and comfort for the Christians of Syria during these difficult times. Priests have been instructed to read the message to the congregation before the fundraising begins. According to the Cyprus Church’s website, the campaign will conclude on April 11, 2025.
