On November 27, 2024, a delegation from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine visited Cherkasy at the invitation of Metropolitan Feodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv. The visit was prompted by the forceful seizure of the UOC's cathedral and diocesan administration in Cherkasy on October 17, 2024. Armed individuals associated with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) were involved in the incident, which was marked by violence and captured on video, drawing widespread attention.
During their visit, UN representatives met with the victims, including Metropolitan Feodosiy, gathering testimonies and reviewing medical records that confirmed serious injuries, including maxillofacial trauma. To protect the security of witnesses, some testimonies were collected anonymously. The UOC emphasized that law enforcement agencies have not acted on the matter, while the perpetrators continue to threaten the victims.
The Cherkasy Diocese provided the UN delegation with evidence of the violence, including documents confirming property ownership of the seized buildings and land, videos of the attack, and materials regarding ongoing criminal investigations. The diocese also highlighted attempts by official structures to downplay the legal responsibility of those involved in the assault.
