The Venerable Hieromartyr Kuksha and the Venerable Pimen the Fasterer died after 1114. Saint Simon, Bishop of Vladimir and Suzdal (XII; Comm. May 23), in a letter to Saint Polycarp, Archimandrite of the Caves (+ 1182; Comm. August 6), wrote about Saint Kuksha: "How can I worthily glorify the holy men who were in the holy monastery of the Caves, in which pagans were baptized and became monks, and Did the Jews accept the holy faith? But I cannot keep silent about the blessed hieromartyr and black sheep of this monastery, Kuksha, about whom everyone knows that he drove out demons, baptized the Vyatichi, brought rain together, dried up the lake, performed many other miracles, and after many torments was killed with his disciple Nikon." 

The death of the Holy Martyr Kuksha was seen by the Monk Pimen the Fasterer. Standing in the middle of the Great Pechersk Church, he said loudly: "Our brother Kuksha was killed at dawn!"
The Vyatichi, among whom the Venerable Hieromartyr Kuksha preached and died, lived along the Oka River and occupied the area of the Orel and Kaluga regions. They were pagans. The Monk Nestor the Chronicler (November 9), describing the Vyatichi, was outraged by their vile customs and added that they live like this "even to this day," remaining unfamiliar with the Law of God and creating their own law. The Venerable Hieromartyr Kuksha preached among the Vyatichi during the time of Saint Theoktist, Bishop of Chernigov (1113-1123). He was buried, just like St. Pimen the Fasterer, in Nearby caves (commemoration of the Cathedral of the Venerable Who Rest in Nearby Caves – October 11).
