His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia has expressed deep condolences in response to the tragic accident at the Novi Sad railway station, where a concrete canopy collapse led to the deaths of at least 14 people and injured more than 30 others. In his statement, the Patriarch emphasized that each lost life is a profound tragedy, urging people to come together in unity and support during this difficult time. He is praying for the eternal rest of the deceased, the swift recovery of the injured, and that the families of the victims may find comfort in God’s love.

The incident at the Novi Sad station occurred on November 1 during midday, according to novosti.rs. At the time of the collapse, numerous people were seated on benches beneath the canopy. Among the injured was a 14-year-old girl who remained trapped under the rubble for nearly four hours before being hospitalized. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.

Metropolitan Irinej of Bačka also extended his condolences, calling on the faithful to pray for the deceased and the injured. Today, November 2, all churches in the Diocese of Bačka will hold services in memory of the victims, and in the coming days, special prayers will be offered for the recovery of those affected.

Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations, sent a letter of condolence to Metropolitan Irinej, expressing sorrow for the loss of life and hope for the healing of the injured.
