On October 2, 2026, during his trip to Georgia, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations, accompanied by Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, Adviser to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, Deputy Chairman of the DECR, Archpriest Vladimir Alexandrov, cleric of the Russian Orthodox Church in Tbilisi, and Priest Nikolai Vasin, Secretary to the DECR Chairman, visited his native Tbilisi St. Gabriel (Urgebadze), who is widely revered in both the Georgian and Russian Orthodox Churches.
In the courtyard of this house, the holy ascetic built a temple with his own hands, decorating it with icons from images of the Savior, the Mother of God and saints cut out of newspapers, magazines and books. The church built by the elder was destroyed several times, but each time Father Gabriel restored it again.
After visiting this memorable place and praying to the monk, the DECR chairman and his companions left for their homeland.
At the Tbilisi airport, they were escorted by representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Andrey of Gori and Athena and Archpriest Kakhaber Gogotishvili, Archpriest Vladimir Alexandrov, cleric of the Russian Orthodox Church in Tbilisi, and D.A. Olisov, head of the Russian Federation Interests Section at the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation in Georgia.
