For the first time, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraisk, traveled to Equatorial Guinea and Uganda on December 11-24, 2024. The bishop was accompanied by the chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, Priest Georgy Maksimov, and the personal secretary, reader V.V. Dendyuk.
In Equatorial Guinea, the hierarch performed a number of divine services and talked with believers, met with officials, visited a school and conducted a humanitarian action. In Uganda, he visited the parishes of the exarchate, where he performed divine services with the assistance of local clergy and held general meetings of the clergy of the deaneries. His Eminence received two priests who had transferred from the Patriarchate of Alexandria into the bosom of the Russian Church, and also talked with candidates for study at the seminary. He consecrated the foundation stone of the church in the name of St. John of Shanghai, baptized 10 people and visited the children's educational center of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At the end of the trip, I met with the Russian Ambassador to Uganda and South Sudan concurrently.
On December 11, Metropolitan Konstantin arrived in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, where the next day he met with the Deputy Minister of Justice, Religious Affairs and Human Rights, Ms. Rimma Bossio Riocalo.
On December 13, the exarch attended the opening of the Russian House in Malabo. On the 25th Week after Pentecost, Vladyka celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the capital, co-served by Father Georgy Maximov. An all-night vigil was held the night before. On December 16, in the same city, the bishop visited the Carlos Asu Center educational institution, where, together with representatives of the African Initiative, he conducted a humanitarian action.
On December 18, Metropolitan Konstantin and his entourage arrived in Uganda. On St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Memorial Day, the archpastor celebrated the Liturgy at the parish of Archangel Michael in Gulu village (Northern Deanery), presented graduates of one-year online theological courses at the Moscow Theological Academy with certificates of successful completion of their studies, and held a general meeting of the clergy of the deanery.
On December 21, when the Church celebrates the day of remembrance of the martyrs of 62 priests and 300 lay people who suffered from Arianism in Africa, Metropolitan Constantine celebrated the Liturgy in Mukongoro (Eastern Deanery), after which he held a meeting of the clergy of the church district and visited the parish of the Apostle Andrew. The day before, His Eminence visited the parish in the city of Lira, and also received a priest who had converted from the Patriarchate of Alexandria into the Russian Orthodox Church.
On the 26th Week after Pentecost, at the parish of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir in the village of Bouvampa (Northern Deanery), the exarch celebrated the Liturgy and the sacrament of Baptism for six residents. On the same day, he visited the preschool and primary education children's center in honor of the Apostles Peter and Paul, which the Russian Orthodox Church takes care of.
On December 23, Metropolitan Konstantin celebrated the Liturgy at the parish of St. John of Shanghai in Chiboga and baptized four people. After the service, he consecrated the foundation stone of St. John's Church and held a general meeting of the clergy of the deanery. On the same day, Bishop Konstantin received another priest who had transferred from the Church of Alexandria and talked with those who wanted to enter the seminary.
At the end of the trip, a meeting was held with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of South Sudan V.S. Semivolos.
