Two vicar bishops will have all the powers of the head of the Estonian Orthodox Church (EPC) of the Moscow Patriarchate in place, Metropolitan Eugene of Tallinn and All Estonia himself will continue to take care of the EPC remotely. This is stated in the statement of the first hierarch of the EPC "upon departure from Estonia", published on the EPC website.
"There are two vicar [auxiliary] bishops in Estonia who, with my blessing, can exercise the full powers of the primate of our church. In turn, I stay in touch and continue to take care of the church entrusted to me, even remotely," said Metropolitan Eugene.
The primate of the Estonian Church left the country on February 6, when his temporary residence permit (residence permit) expired. In his parting address to the flock, Metropolitan Yevgeny expressed the hope that church life in Estonia would not change and "would continue at its own pace."
"The most important thing is that the divine service and church sacraments are performed in our churches. And it is very important for us not to forget this and to thank the Lord God for everything. I urge you all, according to the word of the Apostle Paul, "to preserve the unity of the spirit in the union of peace," the appeal says.
The head of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (EPC MP), Metropolitan Yevgeny (Reshetnikov), enjoys the full support of his flock in Estonia, and the decision of the country's authorities not to extend his residence permit grossly ignores the rights of believers. This opinion was expressed by TASS advisor to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.
"This politically motivated decision grossly ignores the religious rights of the Orthodox believers of Estonia, who express their trust in the archpastor, love and respect for him. It is important to note that the leadership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Estonia and its clergy, members of the Council of Churches of Estonia also expressed a negative attitude towards the police measures of the Estonian authorities," Balashov said.
