With the blessing of Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, the sacristan of the Dormition Cathedral in London, Archpriest Dimitri Yushchenko, held an open lesson on March 16, 2024, dedicated to the Day of the Orthodox Book and the 460th anniversary of the publication of the first printed book in Russia, which are celebrated on March 14.
The lesson was attended by students of the children's parish school at the cathedral and their parents.
Father Dimitri told about the history of the creation of church books, introduced the audience to the design of the liturgical Gospels, old and modern editions in Church Slavonic and English. During the lesson, the clergyman drew the attention of the audience to the works of the first printer Deacon Ivan Fedorov, the first publisher of printed books in Ancient Russia – the Apostle, the Watchmaker, the Gospel, the Primer, as well as other books that have since become widely available to the public.
At the end of the lesson, Archpriest Dimitri Neobachenko answered questions from children and adults, the website of the Diocese of Sourozh reports.
