A 3D guide to a unique monument of the second half of the 17th century, the frescoes of the Holy Trinity Danilov Monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky, has been developed and is open for free use on the Internet. 
A new information resource by the Indrik Scientific and Educational Center (Moscow) within the framework of the project "Gury Nikitin: images and instructions of Russian icon painting" with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the unique murals made by the artel of "royal" icon painters from Kostroma under the leadership of Gury Nikitin in 1662-1668. The user will be able to immerse himself in the world of the Book of Revelation of the Apostle John the Theologian and at the same time experience the historical epoch in the life of the Russian state, which became the reason for the appearance of these murals.
The main subjects of the murals are provided with explanations and comments. It is also possible to listen to the full version of the Book of Revelation in audio format.
An overview of the paintings of the Trinity Cathedral on the monitor or display screen is possible from four levels: from the floor to the drum. This allows you to view the painting from a direct perspective, which would be impossible to do with a regular visit to the church. However, the authors of the project draw attention to the fact that the main task of the project is to prepare for a visit to the Danilov Monastery, for an in–depth perception of the unique artistic monument of the 17th century, and ultimately for a meeting with a beautiful creation, Divine and human.
To introduce the unique monument into a wide cultural space, the organizers used a whole range of events involving information technology (3D travel guide, illustrated catalog), exhibition solutions (traveling exhibitions in Kostroma, Vologda, Kirillov and Arzamas), video content and live educational events with immersive methods.
– The Orthodox spiritual culture is one of the key bearers of symbols and traditions that shaped our national cultural code. However, at present, rapid changes in living conditions and the information field lead to a weakening of the transmission of this code. And new active creative tools are needed that can arouse people's interest in their traditional national culture in modern conditions," Kirill Vakh, head of the project, General Director of NPC Indrik, tells about the idea of the project. – It is no coincidence that an important but still little-known monument of Russian icon painting has become the object of our attention: the frescoes of the painter Gury Nikitin in the Danilov Monastery of the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky. With the help of modern technologies, we tried to reveal how the worldview of our ancestors was formed through these works, through their symbolism of the Apocalypse, and how icon painting was the language of theology. The high-quality digitization of Gury Nikitin's frescoes became the basis for the creation of a new 3D travel guide, available for free to Internet users, as well as a documentary about Gury Nikitin and traveling exhibitions. For the first time, netizens and visitors to the expositions had the opportunity to examine in detail the iconographic plots of the book "Apocalypse". This interest will become a connecting bridge between modern man and the spiritual experience of the past.
