The exhibition of icons from the collection of the Yelaginoostrovsky Palace Museum "Preserved Shrines" opened on September 4 in the chapel of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ ("Savior on Spilled Blood"). It was organized by the Central Park of Culture and Recreation and the St. Isaac's Cathedral Museum with the assistance of the city Committee for Culture.
Yuri Mudrov, Director of the St. Isaac's Cathedral Museum, emphasized that most of the exhibits presented are unique and interesting for researchers. He drew attention to the image of several parts, one of them is the Rzhevskaya-Okovetskaya Icon of the Mother of God, which means that it originates from the upper Volga. The exhibition features many images with unusual subjects, composed at the request of customers, and there are large temple icons that once decorated churches in Russia. The exhibition also features exhibits from the St. Isaac's Cathedral Museum dating back to the same period.
"These icons, made by beautiful, albeit unknown masters, have been coming to us for about twenty years," said Anna Leontieva, curator of the painting fund of the Elaginoostrovsky Palace Museum. - They tried to illegally take them abroad. The customs handed it over to us, and we restored and preserved it. But, unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to show them, and today it happened, for which we thank the St. Isaac's Cathedral Museum.
The large-format icons were sawn into pieces, and the restorers needed the highest skill to put them back together. It is planned to create an open storage fund where these exhibits will be seen by visitors of the Elaginoostrovsky Palace.
The formation of the museum's iconographic collection began in the 1990s, when its collections began receiving exhibits seized at customs. Most of them were in critical condition. They were restored with the support of the Committee for Culture. 
For the first time, a part of the iconographic collection of the Elaginoostrovsky Palace Museum is presented to the general public: images of the XVIII-XIX centuries, temples and brownies belonging to regional schools. Among the exhibits are icons of St. Nicholas, the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, the Prophet Jeremiah, the Archangel Gabriel, John the Baptist, St. Mitrofan of Voronezh, from the story compositions - "The Resurrection of Christ" ("Descent into Hell") and "Christ the Almighty with the coming Mother of God and John the Baptist", of particular interest is the image of the Son of God as the Great Judge. There are also lists of venerated icons of the Mother of God.
