On March 10, 2025, a documentary film "God at War" by Daniil Shchipkov, co-founder of the Russian Mission Charitable Foundation, was shown at the lecture hall of the Russian Orthodox University of St. John the Theologian in the university building on Novaya Ploshchad in Moscow.
Created with the blessing of Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk, chairman of the Synodal Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies, Daniil Shchipkov's film tells about the proximity of God in war, about the meaning of faith and the ministry of military priests, about why they go to the front and what kind of work they do there. The film contains interviews with military personnel, military priests, and widows of deceased priests. Each of them talks about the spiritual content of a special military operation. All the characters in the film formulate it in different ways, but they agree on the main thing - this war has not only a geopolitical, military and historical significance, but also a spiritual dimension that gives the main meaning to a special military operation.
Rector of the Russian Orthodox University A.V. Shchipkov addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. The participants of the show were teachers and students of RPU.
After the screening, a discussion took place with the participation of the author and director of the film. The discussion was attended by Rector of RPU A.V. Shchipkov, head of the Department of Theology of RPU, rector of the University Church of St. John the Theologian under the Elm Archpriest Mikhail Dudko and MV Vasilyeva, widow of Archpriest Mikhail Vasilyev, who died on November 6, 2022 in the area of his pastoral duties. The panelists exchanged views on the film and answered questions from the audience.
At the end of the screening, a memorial service was held in the university church for all the soldiers who died on the battlefields of the special military operation.
