On June 12, 2026, the opening ceremony of the new museum of the St. Euphrosyne Metropolitan Convent took place in Polotsk in the Vitebsk region of Belarus.
The event was attended by Abbess of the monastery Abbess Evdokia (Levshuk) with the sisters of the monastery, honored guests.
The museum is located in the pre-revolutionary building of the former Polotsk Women's College on Euphrosyne Polotskaya Street, which leads to the walls of the monastery. The new museum object has entered a space associated with the history of the monastery and the veneration of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk.
The three exhibition halls present the history of the monastery from its foundation to the present. The exhibition tells about the architecture of the monastery, the restoration of the Transfiguration Church and the discovery of ancient frescoes of the XII century. The museum also presents unique archaeological finds discovered on the territory of the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery during the restoration of the temple.
Abbess Evdokia (Levshuk) thanked everyone who participated in the creation of the museum and helped to realize this spiritual project.
A special element of the acquaintance with the museum was the offer to leave memorable autographs in the letters of the ancient alphabet of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk. These letters were recreated from graffiti wall inscriptions on ancient frescoes of the Transfiguration Church. This format allowed the participants of the event to touch the written heritage of the Polotsk land.
On the same day, a special commemorative cancellation of the postal block "Legacy of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk" took place in Polotsk. The Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus timed the release of the postal block to coincide with the 865th anniversary of the creation of the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk.
The philatelic issue includes a postal block "The Legacy of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk", an envelope of the first day and a special postmark.
On the postal block, designer Elena Medved placed the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk against the frescoes of the Transfiguration Church. This temple is the only architectural monument in Belarus where frescoes of the 12th century have been almost completely preserved. The Transfiguration Church is located on the territory of the St. Euphrosyne Convent, founded in 1125 by St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is also depicted on the envelope of the first day — a special unmarked envelope on which postage stamps or blocks are redeemed on the first day of their release.
Since 1992, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus, together with the Belarusian Exarchate, has implemented several dozen projects related to Orthodox themes. The first such stamp was dedicated to the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk.
The Museum of the Savior-Euphrosyne Metropolitan Convent has opened in Polotsk.
