On the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, on October 14, 2026, the Museum of Cossacks was opened at the University College of Information Technology of the First Cossack University (MGUTU named after K.G. Razumovsky) in Moscow. The rite of consecration of the new museum space was performed by the university's confessor, the executive secretary of the Synodal Committee for Cooperation with the Cossacks, Priest Timofey Chaikin.
The museum is intended to become a center for the preservation of historical memory, the study of the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Russian Cossacks and the patriotic education of youth. The opening was timed to coincide with the university's birthday. Special attention was paid at the ceremony to the museum's role in the system of continuing Cossack education: the new space will allow college students and university guests to familiarize themselves with the history of the Cossacks, their traditions, spiritual values and centuries-old service to the Fatherland.
The opening began with the rite of consecration. After the prayer, Father Timothy addressed the audience: "May this wonderful place become a space of learning about the true history of our Fatherland and the Russian Cossacks for all students and guests. I bow low to all those who attract young minds and hearts to the study of history and the preservation of spiritual and cultural traditions. I am sure that this good undertaking will bear good fruit with God's help. I cordially congratulate everyone on the consecration of the museum!"
The participants were given a guided tour of the exposition, a significant part of which is devoted to the participation of the Cossacks in the First World War. The visitors were presented with authentic objects from the early 20th century, including officers' stirrups, historical photographs, documents, postcards, illustrations and copies of archival materials. A special place is occupied by materials about the Cossacks of His Imperial Majesty's Own Convoy, who guarded the imperial family and fought on the war fronts. According to information provided on the tour, about 120,000 Cossacks were awarded St. George's Crosses, medals and other awards. The guests were told about the Don Cossack Kozma Kryuchkov, one of the first St. George Cavaliers of the First World War, and the military pilot Vyacheslav Tkachev.
Part of the exhibition is devoted to the reflection of the Cossack theme in the art of the early 20th century, including reproductions of Nikolai Samokish and Ivan Vladimirovich, and the help of Muscovites to the front, for example, the charitable "Cossack Days" of the writer Vladimir Gilyarovsky. The museum also presents materials about the August Icon of the Mother of God, whose veneration spread especially during the First World War, and about the preservation of its lists during the period of persecution of the Church.
In the future, the university plans to train student guides who will be able to conduct guided tours of the museum on their own. After getting acquainted with the exposition, students of the Faculty of Choreography performed for the honored guests.
