In Perm Krai, regular religious services are set to resume at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in the village of Taman, after being abandoned since 1934. This announcement was made on the Solikamsk Diocese's page on VKontakte.
"We look forward to your participation in joint prayer. As our Lord Jesus Christ said, 'If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them,'" reads the statement from the Solikamsk Diocese.
According to the diocese, divine liturgies at the church will begin on May 25 and will continue on June 26, July 31, August 21, and September 25. Services will start at 11:40 AM. The church can be reached by the "Karat" scheduled riverboat.
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built between 1913 and 1917 with funds provided by merchant Kiryakov. The church was constructed by stonemasons from Nizhny Novgorod. Its architectural decoration is unique among churches in the Perm region, resembling 17th-century structures. The facades are adorned with intricate brickwork that blends Russian, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural motifs.
The church was closed in 1934 and subsequently used as a grain storage facility. In 1968, a lightning strike destroyed its central dome. Later, the building served as a cinema, a shelter for fishermen, and a waiting area for riverboat passengers. Currently, restoration work is underway at the church.
