On May 18, 2025, a cross of worship was consecrated on one of the peaks of the Mirror Bay in the Kavalerovsky district of Primorsky Krai, erected in memory of the expedition of Mikhail Venyukov, who was the first Russian explorer to cross the Sikhote-Alin mountain region.
Mikhail Venyukov's expedition passed through the territory of the current Kavalerovsky district and reached the sea.
In his book "An overview of the Ussuri River and the lands east of it to the Sea," Mikhail Venyukov wrote: "I went out on the shore of the Sea of Japan not near Vladimirskaya Harbor, but a little to the east and north, and I did not leave people anywhere on the seashore, but as a sign of our stay in those places, I put a cross at one point with the inscription that we were there on July 18, 1858.
" In memory of this event, according to By the decision of the initiative group of Kavalerovo village, the historical shrine was restored, and a cross of worship was installed at the place of rest of the residents of Primorye.
The rite of consecration was performed by Bishop Guriy of Arsenyevsky and Dalnegorsky, co-served by Archpriest Alexander Sulema, dean of the Cavalier Deanery, and Hierodeacon Dosifey (Zykov). The sisters of the women's monastic community of the Arseniev diocese, representatives of the Cossacks, benefactors and numerous parishioners prayed during the service.
Vladyka Gury congratulated the audience on the solemn event.: "The cross of Christ, nine meters high, shone on the mountain. The cross was erected in memory of the campaign that Mikhail Venyukov made, so the installation of the cross in its historical place is a very important mission for us. This is a thank you to the discoverers of the Far Eastern borders of our vast Russia, who at the cost of their lives annexed and strengthened the lands of the Russian state."
