On April 7, 2025, on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos, the St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York held celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the repose of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. This cathedral, which was built and consecrated by St. Tikhon in 1902, holds special significance as it was established when he served as the head of the North American Diocese.

The Divine Liturgy was led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, according to the website of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. He was joined in the service by hierarchs from various Orthodox jurisdictions in North America, including the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Antiochian Orthodox Church, and Patriarchal parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in the USA.

A large number of faithful gathered for the service, along with prominent officials, including the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to the United States, Alexander Darchiev, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, and the Consul General of Russia in New York, Alexey Zakharov. Representatives of the New York City government were also in attendance.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, a special service of praise was held near the reliquary containing a portion of the relics of St. Tikhon. The relics arrived in the United States with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and will visit Orthodox parishes across the country throughout the anniversary year before being donated to a church in Cambridge, Canada.

In his welcoming address, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh noted the symbolic importance of the joint prayer offered by representatives of different jurisdictions in the cathedral, which St. Tikhon himself once referred to as his spiritual center: "Today, with one heart and one mouth, we glorify the memory of the great saint of the Church of Christ."

Metropolitan Tikhon highlighted the significance of Patriarch Tikhon’s spiritual legacy for both the Russian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church in America: "He became a shining guiding star for both of our autocephalous Churches."

Other greetings were delivered by Metropolitan Nikolai (Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia), Bishop Irinej (Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA), diplomats, and representatives from the New York City government, all of whom emphasized the spiritual and cultural importance of St. Tikhon’s ministry for the Orthodox diaspora.

In memory of the event, the cathedral received as a gift an icon of the Mother of God "The Sign" featuring images of St. Tikhon and other figures of the Russian emigration. All participants were given commemorative souvenirs bearing the name of the street where the cathedral is located—"Saint Tikhon Way."

After the Liturgy, an official reception was held, allowing clergy, faithful, and guests to continue their fellowship, united in prayer and grateful remembrance of the great saint.
