The event is organized by the Minsk Theological Academy, the Minsk Theological Seminary and the Novogrudok Diocese of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
Metropolitan Gury (Egorov) was a confessor of the 1920s and 1930s and an outstanding archpastor of the 1940s and 1960s. As a young hieromonk and then archimandrite, he stood at the origins of the famous Petrograd Alexander Nevsky Brotherhood, nurtured semi-legal monastic communities, went through exile, prisons and camps. After returning to open ministry in 1946, he became the first vicar of the revived Trinity-Sergius Lavra, and then was consecrated bishop of Tashkent and Central Asia. During his 19 years of episcopal ministry, His Grace Gury headed seven dioceses and everywhere exerted all his strength and talents to strengthen the Church in the most difficult conditions of its suppression by atheistic authorities. Vladyka Gury remained in the memory of believers as a bright preacher and a wonderful confessor. These qualities gathered many different people around him, for whom he became a mentor and an example of a truly ecclesiastical life.
Monograph ""I will call you to prayer until I die." The Life and Ministry of Metropolitan Guriy (Egorov)" is written on the basis of a wide range of archival sources, most of which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. It is not only the most complete biography of Metropolitan Gury, but also presents a general picture of church life in the Soviet state of the mid-twentieth century. The book is intended for anyone interested in the history of the Russian Church during the era of persecution.
