On June 11, 2026, employees of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra National Reserve forcibly seized one of the monastery's temples, the Academic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to the lawyer of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, representatives of the state structure cut off the locks and illegally entered the premises.
The lawyer stressed that these actions are arbitrary and grossly violate the law, since disputes over the right to use the buildings of the Lavra are still being considered in the courts. According to him, the management of the reserve is committing another crime against the monastic community, without waiting for final legal decisions.
"This is not the first such high-handed illegal actions. The National Reserve continues to commit crimes against the Kiev Pechersk Lavra Monastery," the lawyer stated.
