On March 6, new large icons were installed in the bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral near the city of Kalyazin.
In October 2023, for the bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral, which rises in the middle of the Volga, the rector of the Vvedensky Temple of the former Trinity Kalyazinsky Makariev Monastery, Hieromonk Ambrose (Zhelyabovsky), ordered large icons of the Savior, the Mother of God and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and their icons. Gilded lamps were also purchased.
A prayer service to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is served weekly on Thursdays in the bell tower.
The bell tower in the city of Kalyazin was built in 1800 as part of the St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Nikolo-Zhabensky Convent. The height of the bell tower is 74.5 meters.
In the 40s of the XX century, during the construction of the Uglich hydroelectric power station and the creation of the Uglich reservoir on the Volga, part of Kalyazin fell into a flood zone. St. Nicholas Cathedral and its bell tower were also surrounded by water. The cathedral was dismantled, but they decided to leave the bell tower, turning it into a local landmark.
During the restoration work in 2021, the foundation was strengthened, the facades and interiors of the church were restored, and the cross was restored. The bell tower has a backlight along the perimeter of each tier, which automatically lights up after dark; clocks and bells are installed on the bell tower.
During the restoration of the cross, restorers discovered historical inscriptions preserved on it about the people who participated in its consecration and installation on August 29, 1893.
In June 2023, an agreement was signed on the gratuitous use of the bell tower by the bishop's compound of the Vvedenskaya Church of the city of Kalyazin.
