On October 15, the plenary session of the Pokrovsky Parliamentary Readings, an interregional forum of the World Russian People's Council, was held at Ivanovo State University. The theme of the forum is "Saving people: faith, family, traditions."
From October 9 to October 13, nine thematic sections were held in Ivanovo and Shuya. More than 460 people took part in them. The participants discussed family traditions, demographics, health, active longevity, upbringing, and the spiritual foundations of family life.
The plenary session was attended by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, government authorities, universities, public organizations and the professional community. Presentations were made, in particular, by Metropolitan Joseph of Ivanovo-Voznesensky and Vichugsky and Rector of Ivanovo State University Alexander Malygin. Based on the results of the readings, proposals have been prepared for the final document of the forum.

This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

By the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen and the Holy Synod of March 3, 1976, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy and Seminary, was elected Bishop of Vyborg, vicar of the Leningrad Diocese.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
