The Yambol Diocese of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has launched the "Save the Icon" campaign aimed at preserving images of saints printed on everyday objects. The initiative, which is aimed at children, includes creative workshops and educational activities. This was reported by the BTA news agency.

As Father Ioan Petrov, the vicar of the Yambol spiritual district, told journalists, the idea behind the project is to preserve icons printed on paper and cardboard—such as calendars, newspapers, and even unexpected items like wine bottles and matchboxes.

"These icons, wherever they are printed, remain icons, and we must treat them with respect and reverence," emphasized the priest.

As part of the campaign, children will cut out images, create collages, and decorate them, giving them a new look. At the same time, they will learn more about the Orthodox faith: during the workshops, they will be told about the saints, the meaning of icons, and Orthodox traditions.

The campaign is not only educational but also charitable. The finished works will be displayed in exhibitions, and the funds raised will be used to help those in need.

Similar initiatives have been successfully conducted in Sofia and Sliven. In Yambol, Father Ioan Petrov has also organized a series of Orthodox talks on fasting, confession, and communion, emphasizing that spiritual education is the foundation of faith.
