The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has appointed Bishop Euthymius (Moiseev) of Lukhovitsy as a vicar for the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, according to patriarchia.ru. Until recently, Bishop Euthymius headed the Synodal Missionary Department and served as the abbot of the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery in Moscow.

Born in 1972 in Korolyov, Moscow Region, Bishop Euthymius completed studies at Moscow State University’s Faculty of Philology and later attended the Moscow Theological Seminary and Academy, where he earned a degree focusing on the missionary activities of St. Boniface. Since 2021, he has led the Synodal Missionary Department and was abbot at the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery. Bishop Euthymius also studied in Switzerland and has lectured in theology and Catholic history at the Moscow Theological Academy.

The African Exarchate was established in December 2021 following the Russian Orthodox Church's break in Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Alexandria, which supported the creation of the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.” Since then, two dioceses have been created in Africa—the North African Diocese, headquartered in Cairo, and the South African Diocese, based in Johannesburg. Both dioceses are currently overseen by Metropolitan Konstantin (Ostrovsky) of Zaraisk, the Exarch of Africa.
