The ruling bishop of the Aleppo diocese of the Antiochian Orthodox Church (UAOC), Metropolitan Ephraim (Maalouly) and other clergy of the APC, according to reports, were not injured as a result of the aggravation of the situation in Syria. This was stated to TASS by the representative of the Antiochian Patriarchate to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Niphon of Philippopolis.
"According to my information, no one was injured," he said.
Earlier, foreign media reported that Metropolitan Ephraim of Aleppo (Maaluli) refused to leave the Syrian city of Aleppo when opposition armed groups were preparing to enter it. The hierarch preferred to stay with his flock, noting that divine services and prayers in churches will continue regardless of changing circumstances.

This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
