On December 15, 2024, Paris hosted celebrations marking the fifth anniversary of the reunion of the Archdiocese of Western European Parishes of Russian Tradition with the Russian Orthodox Church. The event was highlighted by a festive Divine Liturgy held at the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky on Rue Daru, the spiritual center of the Archdiocese. The service was concelebrated by Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations; Metropolitan John of Dubna, head of the Archdiocese; and Bishop Simeon of Domodedovo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese. 

After the Liturgy, Metropolitan Anthony read a congratulatory message from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. The Patriarch emphasized the historical significance of the 2019 reunion, which preserved the Archdiocese's unique identity and rich heritage. He highlighted the Archdiocese’s role as a beacon of the Russian Orthodox tradition in Western Europe.  

Metropolitan Anthony also praised Metropolitan John’s efforts in fostering the reunion, commending his leadership, pastoral care, and dedication to strengthening church life.  

In his response, Metropolitan John expressed heartfelt gratitude to Patriarch Kirill and the Holy Synod for their support, noting that the reunion had enabled the Archdiocese to elect auxiliary bishops, strengthen its traditions, and achieve further development. He reaffirmed the Archdiocese’s commitment to its mission of preserving Russian Orthodox spirituality and fostering pastoral care in Western Europe.  

The Archdiocese of Western European Parishes of Russian Tradition was established in 1921 by Saint Patriarch Tikhon, who entrusted its leadership to Metropolitan Evlogy. It has since played a vital role in preserving the Russian Orthodox tradition abroad. In 2019, the Archdiocese officially returned to the canonical jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate under Metropolitan John of Dubna.

Today, the Archdiocese maintains its distinct spiritual and liturgical traditions while adhering to the pastoral principles established by the All-Russian Council of 1917–1918. Its administrative center is located in Paris at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.  

The Archdiocese oversees:  
- The St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris  
- Five monasteries and sketes  
- Approximately 60 parishes across seven European countries
