Russia has announced a temporary Easter ceasefire in the ongoing conflict zone, with the Russian Orthodox Church expressing support for the initiative and urging all sides to observe the pause in hostilities.

According to official statements, President Vladimir Putin declared the ceasefire on April 9. The truce is scheduled to take effect from 16:00 on April 11 and remain in place until the end of April 12. During this period, Russian forces have been instructed to halt combat operations across all fronts.

At the same time, military leadership has been directed to maintain readiness to respond to any potential violations, including attacks or provocations. The Kremlin indicated that the decision was made in connection with the celebration of Orthodox Easter and expressed hope that the Ukrainian side would also adhere to the ceasefire.

This marks the fourth temporary truce announced by Russia since the start of its military operation in Ukraine. Previous ceasefires were declared during Orthodox Christmas in 2023 and twice in 2025—once for Easter and once to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II.

The Russian Orthodox Church welcomed the move. Vladimir Legoyda, head of the Synodal Department for Church-Society and Media Relations, stated that the ceasefire could allow civilians in affected areas to safely attend Easter services.

“We hope that its observance will enable many people to safely take part in Easter worship,” he said, adding that all parties should respect the truce.
