The Russian Orthodox Church has bestowed an icon of St. Alexander Nevsky, containing a relic of his remains, to a Serbian monastery in Ugljevik. This significant religious gesture was carried out by Bishop Konstantin of Zaraysk, Vicar of the Moscow Patriarchate, who led the solemn liturgy alongside Bishop Photius of Zvornik-Tuzla. The news was announced by the press service of the Zvornik-Tuzla Diocese.

Following the reception of the relic, Bishop Photius of Zvornik-Tuzla expressed that such sacred relics have the power to bring people together.

The Ugljevik Monastery, dedicated to Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky, originated from a church that stood on the premises of Russian peacekeepers stationed in the city since 1996. The church was consecrated on September 12, 1997, and served as a place of worship for the Russian clergy. After the Russian contingent withdrew, the church was handed over to the Zvornik-Tuzla Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Bishop Photius informed reporters that the development of the monastery continues, with plans for it to become one of the spiritual centers of the diocese. According to the bishop, prayers will be offered before the relics for the sick and those in need.

Vasilije Perić, the head of Ugljevik, expressed his gratitude, stating, "The friendship and cooperation between the Serbian and Russian peoples are evident, and we extend our immense appreciation to the Russian people for all they do for the Serbian people during challenging times.
