The Russian Orthodox Church proposes adopting special international acts to sustain traditional values in the modern world, including the protection of the family as the union of a man and a woman. This position on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church has been expressed by the Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission for Family, Maternity and Childhood Protection Rev. Fr. Fedor Lukianov, speaking at the forum "Army-2022."

"We have universal traditional values that unite us and today especially need protection. New challenges facing humanity dictate the need to initiate international acts that respond to threats and risks. International organizations which our nation is a part of could become venues for the discussion. This will imbue them with a global sense of association, make them full-fledged institutions, the guarantors of future peace and prosperity of mankind," said Fr. Fedor.

Today there is an urgent need to improve bioethical legislation restricting human experimentation at all stages of development, beginning with conception. In the sphere of social relations, according to the head of the Patriarchal Commission, we need acts to protect the family as the union of a man and a woman.

The Russian Orthodox Church believes that new platforms and institutions are needed to create and implement such legal acts in national legislation. "Convincing the existing ones to to change their course, I'm afraid, is pointless," the Church representative said. According to him, the Moscow Patriarchate and the Patriarchal Commission on the Family have experience in organizing events to protect traditional values and are always open to cooperation.

"At the conclusion of the two world wars, fundamental acts were adopted to prevent a repetition of the catastrophe. Today they need revision and analysis, many acts have been reinterpreted and defaced, they need to be restored to their original significance, control over compliance," Father Fedor added.
