Romania marked a new chapter in its political life today as Nicușor Dan was officially sworn in as the country’s new president during a solemn inauguration ceremony held at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest. The event was attended by prominent religious leaders, diplomats, lawmakers, and former heads of state.

Following the formal oath of office, in which President Dan pledged to devote his efforts “to the spiritual and material well-being of the Romanian people,” Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church offered a prayer for the nation, invoking divine guidance and protection for Romania and its people.

“Look mercifully upon this country, Romania, and upon our faithful people,” the Patriarch prayed. “Grant our leaders the spirit of wisdom and justice… instill in their hearts love for the homeland and its people.” His words resonated with the ceremony’s tone of unity and humility, emphasizing that the appeal for divine help is not a sign of self-righteousness, but a reflection of hopeful humility: “We do not ask for Your mercy because of our righteousness, but because of Your boundless love for mankind.”

In his inaugural address, President Dan expressed gratitude to the citizens of Romania for their civic engagement during the election process. He vowed to remain attentive to the voices of the people and committed to working collaboratively on institutional reforms.

The ceremony drew a diverse group of distinguished guests, including Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bucharest Aurel Percă, Chief Rabbi of Romania Rafael Shaffer, Protestant church representatives, Custodian of the Romanian Crown Margareta, members of the European Parliament, and foreign ambassadors.

The presence of religious leaders from various faiths highlighted Romania’s commitment to interfaith dialogue and national solidarity as the country embarks on a new political journey under President Dan’s leadership.
