On August 23, 2026, an exhibition dedicated to the Shroud of Turin was opened in Karaganda (Kazakhstan) at the Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima. The exhibition is organized by the Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Karaganda Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in cooperation with the Sovereign Order of Malta and the international charitable foundation Kirche in Not ("Help to the Church in Need").
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Kazakh Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, as well as representatives of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims, the city administration and public organizations.
The exhibition features an exact full-size replica of the Shroud of Turin, as well as recreated instruments of torture to which the Lord Jesus Christ was subjected on the day of His execution: a spear, a whip, a crown of thorns, nails, etc. The information on the exhibition stands tells in detail about the history of the shroud and the numerous scientific studies that have been conducted to determine its authenticity.
The greeting of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, announced at the ceremony, notes that holding the Shroud of Turin exhibition in Karaganda and other cities of the country will be "of great importance for the development of interfaith and intercultural dialogue and will serve the noble cause of strengthening peace and harmony in society."
