At the XI International Faith and the Word Festival, which, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, is taking place in Moscow and the Moscow region from October 15 to 19, 2025, the presentation of the Global Orthodox project took place.
The presentation was conducted by the editor-in-chief of Global Orthodox, A.A. Sorokin, the head of Global Orthodox volunteer projects, P.B. Popov, the editor-in-chief of the Russia Insider portal, Charles Bausman, and the Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-Society Relations and the Media, V.V. Kipshidze.
In his opening remarks, V.V. Kipshidze noted that the Global Orthodoxproject was conceived as aimed at an audience living not only in Russia and in Russian-speaking countries, but also at an international English-speaking audience, that is, the project is designed to be global in international character.
The speaker noted that "for the Russian Orthodox Church, witnessing the truth of Christ to a global audience is not something new," but new technologies are currently needed. "Creating the right Orthodox content aimed at your target audience is undoubtedly an urgent problem, an urgent challenge for all of us," emphasized V.V. Kipshidze.
The editor-in-chief of Global Orthodox, A.A. Sorokin, noted that the project proved to be in demand by the audience, because within its framework news about the life of the Church on a global scale became available, ranging from news of an individual parish to information about meetings of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill with the heads of Local Churches.
Thanks to the activities of Global Orthodox, a dialogue space is being created for dioceses, metropolitans, and Local Churches within the framework of a supranational format, the speaker noted. The project talks about any topic, but from the point of view of a person who perceives any problems through the prism of Orthodoxy, emphasized A.A. Sorokin.
The head of Global Orthodox volunteer projects, P.B. Popov, told the audience about the social role of the project, in particular, the delivery of humanitarian supplies to orphanages and Orthodox parishes in Donbass, and the joint publication of a special issue of the newspaper Foma for the Kherson region with the Foma publishing house. The speaker also spoke about the activities of Brazilian journalist Igor Gilov, whose reports from Donbass and the Kherson region aroused considerable interest among readers in Brazil. P.B. Popov also mentioned the trip of the musician P.L. Lundstrom's trip to Donbass, which also took place thanks to his collaboration with the project. He stressed that volunteer work for Global Orthodox is no less important than media work. Gratitude for the assistance in the implementation of humanitarian projects in the free zone was expressed to the partners of Global Orthodox. This includes volunteers from the Russian Product company and restaurants operating under the trademark "PHALIKHINKALI".
Charles Bausman, editor-in-chief of the Russia Insider project and responsible for the English-language content of the Global Orthodox project, noted in his speech that protest sentiments are maturing in the United States and, partly, in Europe. The speaker noted that these sentiments are accompanied by increased sympathy for Russia and an increase in interest in Orthodoxy. According to him, between 500 and 700,000 young Protestants have converted to Orthodoxy in the United States, which may help improve relations with Russia. He noted that information about Russia and Orthodoxy is in demand in the Western world.
