On September 5, 2026, a solemn event dedicated to the 879th anniversary of the founding of Moscow and the celebration of the City Day took place at the Zaryadye Concert Hall in the Russian capital.
Before the start of the festive concert, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Muscovites and all Russian citizens.: "Dear friends! Traditionally, we celebrate Moscow Day in early September. Congratulations on this holiday to Muscovites and all citizens of our big country. Happy holidays! For each of us, Moscow is a symbol of Russian statehood, our solidarity and unity, perseverance and great achievements."
The Head of State shared his impressions of participating in a prayer service at the relics of the Blessed Prince Dimitri Donskoy in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.: "You've all heard about the relics of Dmitry Donskoy. Honestly, when I came to the temple, I looked at it — I didn't even expect it to make such an impression on me: it was like the relics of a saint, a man who played such a colossal role in the formation and development of Russia. And this is also Moscow. It's all from here, and it's all here, our roots are here."
"Preserving history and being open to everything new, caring for every Muscovite and being ready to help residents of other regions make Moscow strong and at the same time humane, hospitable, the soul and engine of development for the whole of Russia," the President stressed.
The audience was also addressed by the Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, who congratulated the residents on the 879th anniversary of the city and spoke about the key results of the capital's development in recent years.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia attended the event at Zaryadye.
