This statement was made during a meeting with Patriarch John X of Antioch and representatives of Syrian Christian communities.

According to the press service of the Antiochian Patriarchate, Pedersen affirmed that Syria belongs to all its people, and Christians are not guests but rightful citizens with equal rights and responsibilities.

The UN representative stated that Syria is entering a new phase of its history, one that demands the unity of all citizens. He underscored that any changes can yield positive outcomes if steered in the right direction. The international community, he noted, supports the vision of Syria as a shared homeland for all its citizens, regardless of religion or background.

Pedersen stressed that Syria's reconstruction process must be grounded in the principles of citizenship, justice, and equality. He also highlighted the importance of drafting a new constitution that guarantees equal rights for all Syrians.

The meeting concluded with a collective prayer for peace and unity in Syria, along with calls for mutual understanding and collaboration for the benefit of all citizens.
