During the celebration of the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, Coptic Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Holiness Tawadros II, delivered a powerful message on the importance of spiritual vigilance and time management, reminding the faithful that holiness begins in the small details of daily life.

Leading the festive liturgy at the Church of the Virgin Mary and Saint Marina in Al-Alamein, the Patriarch marked the end of the two-week fast in honor of the Theotokos, a significant observance in the Coptic Orthodox calendar.

In his sermon, Patriarch Tawadros reflected on the spiritual presence of the Virgin Mary, noting that her example of humility and obedience is not confined to feast days. “We encounter her during the month of Kiahk, feel her nearness during the August fast, and meet her in every prayer when we say, ‘Hail to you, O Virgin,’” he said.

Drawing from the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, the Patriarch emphasized the essential difference between the two: the ability to value time. “Be mindful of your time, for the days are evil,” he warned, urging believers to remain spiritually alert and not waste the opportunities God provides.

“Holiness is not distant or unreachable,” Tawadros continued. “It begins with the little things: with prayer, purity of heart, joy, patience, and humility.” He concluded by encouraging the faithful to strive for a daily encounter with Christ, seeking to cast off sin and live with eternity in mind.

The message resonated with many in the congregation, highlighting the enduring spiritual depth of the Coptic Church’s traditions and its call to live a life of intentional holiness.
