On the afternoon of October 13, 2024, after the Divine Liturgy at St. John's Stavropol Monastery on Karpovka, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visited the Bolsheokhtinskoye St. George Cemetery in St. Petersburg.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church was accompanied by Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga and His Holiness's personal secretary Bishop Alexy of Ramenskoye.
His Holiness celebrated the liturgy at the burial place of his pious parents, Archpriest Mikhail and Raisa Vladimirovna Gundyaev. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the death of the ever—memorable father of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, Archpriest Mikhail Gundyaev (1907-1974).
At the end of the funeral service, the Primate of the Russian Church thanked Archpriest Gennady Gordeev, rector of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker at the Bolsheokhtinsky cemetery, and donated the icon of the Mother of God "The Sign" to the temple.
Then His Holiness Patriarch Kirill visited the graves of his other relatives buried in this cemetery.
Then His Holiness visited the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra. At the Trinity Cathedral, the Primate was met by the vicar of the lavra, Bishop Benjamin of Kronstadt, with the brethren of the monastery.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill proceeded to the Nikolsky cemetery of the monastery, where he laid a wreath and celebrated a litany at the grave of his spiritual mentor Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov). October 15 marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of the ever-memorable hierarch.
Russian graves of Metropolitan Anthony (Melnikov), Metropolitan John (Snychev) and his brother Archpriest Nikolai Gundyaev were also prayed at by the Primate of the Russian Church.
