In the capital of Yamal, Salekhard, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia consecrated the upper temple of the largest temple complex in the Russian Arctic on the feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, September 21, 2024.
Together with the parishioners, the service was attended by the Governor of Yamal Dmitry Artyukhov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Dmitry Kobylkin. Archbishop Nicholas of Salekhard and Novo-Urengoy concelebrated with the Patriarch.
The Cathedral in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Salekhard is one of the tallest buildings in Yamal. Its height is more than 60 m, which is comparable to a twenty–storey house. The architecture of the cathedral complex is made in the form of a circle with five domes. There are 16 bells installed at the facility. They are decorated with bas-reliefs with the faces of Orthodox saints and quotations from prayers.
Three large bells were cast in 2013 and 2015 and consecrated by Patriarch Kirill. The belfry has an "electronic bell ringer" system, which has about 70 different melodies in its repertoire. There are two temples in the cathedral. The upper one is designed for 1.3 thousand parishioners and is intended for conducting divine services in the warmer months. In the lower church (830 people), divine services will be held on church holidays in winter. The first service was held here on Christmas Day, January 7, 2024. There is also a baptismal font in the lower church.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church in his sermon congratulated everyone on the consecration of the temple. He said that the construction of such a majestic cathedral in permafrost symbolizes the great path of Russia, which has achieved technical and scientific progress.
The Patriarch stressed that history and folk wisdom play an important role in strengthening the Orthodox faith.
"And as long as this is the case, Russia will be invincible, because a genuine victory, relying only on human forces, cannot be achieved," Kirill added.
His Holiness the Patriarch presented the church with an icon of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. 
In conclusion, Patriarch Kirill admonished the faithful: "Once again, I congratulate all of you, dear bishops, fathers, brothers and sisters, on this highly sacred day and I am glad to have the opportunity to pray with you in this new newly consecrated church in the hope that the Orthodox faith will be strengthened in your hearts, that children and youth will be educated In faith, we will all grow together in love both for God and for our Fatherland.
