Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia participated in the country’s parliamentary elections this weekend, the Georgian Patriarchate’s press service reported. Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri), the Patriarchal Locum Tenens, also cast his vote, highlighting the importance of the election for Georgia’s future. He expressed hope that the election would serve as a significant step toward national prosperity, peace, and the preservation of Georgia’s traditional Christian values, which are foundational to the nation’s identity and culture.

Ahead of the election, the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church issued a statement emphasizing the need to safeguard Georgia's national and religious values and foster unity. The Synod affirmed the Church’s role as a unifying force within society, reiterating that, while it remains apolitical, it supports decisions that promote long-term peace and the strengthening of Christian traditions in the country.

According to the Central Election Commission, the ruling party, Georgian Dream, secured over 53% of the vote, with four opposition parties also winning parliamentary seats. Voter turnout reached nearly 60%, with strong participation from Georgians abroad. Videos of long queues at polling stations, especially in the United States, circulated widely on social media.
