Mass festive services in the capital's churches were held without incident, they united a huge number of citizens on the day of the Bright Resurrection of Christ.
A huge number of people visited the religious sites of the capital on the day of the main Christian holiday, RIA Novosti reports.
Vitaly Suchkov, Head of the Moscow Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations, summed up the official results of the celebrations.
"More than 1.8 million people," Suchkov cited the number of believers who attended Easter services in the city. The head of the department additionally stressed that all the mass meetings were held absolutely calmly and without any incidents.
In total, more than 500 Orthodox churches and monasteries received parishioners in the capital. In addition, the information message notes that in 2026, the celebration of the Bright Resurrection of Christ will take place on April 12.
On Sunday, President Vladimir Putin arrived for the Easter service at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The day before, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia consecrated festive cakes at the walls of this cathedral.
