On the Memorial Day of the Heavenly Patroness of the Ural capital, after the completion of the Divine Liturgy, a citywide procession was held from the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Yekaterinburg to the chapel of St. Catherine.
A prayer service was held at the historic site where the majestic Catherine Cathedral stood until 1930. About 5,000 believers prayed at the Catherine services.
The prayer procession was led by Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, Metropolitan Evgeny of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, Metropolitan Alexy of Chelyabinsk and Miass, Bishop Savvaty of Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan, Bishop Feognost of Serov and Krasnoturyinsky, Bishop Sergiy of Kamensk and Kamyshlovsky, Bishop Sergiy of Alapaevsky and Irbit, Bishop Meliton of Nizhny Tagil and Nevyansky.
At the head of the column of the Catherine Procession are the young drummers of the Brotherhood of Orthodox Pathfinders, which has been a tradition for several years. For the first time in 2019, at the initiative of the St. Catherine Foundation, Palestinian scouts took part in the procession. Then the Ural pathfinders took over the baton – with the assistance of the Foundation, they acquired drums, trained the guys, and since then, every December 7, they have been delighting the crusaders with their participation.
According to a long-standing tradition, an icon from Holy Trinity Cathedral was carried in a procession – a list from the miraculous image of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine of Alexandria with a particle of her relics.
The crusaders marched through the streets of Rosa Luxemburg, Kuibyshev, Gogol, Pushkin, and Ploshchad Truda to the chapel church located on the site of the altar of the Catherine Mountain Cathedral, which was blown up almost a century ago by the Bolsheviks.
The prayer procession ended with a prayer service to the Heavenly Patroness of Yekaterinburg.
After the procession, every believer could venerate the Icon of the Heavenly Patroness of the city, as well as the Ark with the relics of St. Catherine, located in the Catherine Chapel.
