The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, appealed to the Moscow authorities and received the full support of the Mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, on the issue of the annual Moscow-Wide Procession from the Mother See. This became known following the results of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church held in Moscow, according to the Patriarchate. Ru.
After hearing the message of His Holiness about the Orthodox procession in honor of the Cathedral of Moscow Saints that took place on September 7, 2025 in Moscow, the Synod decided:
1. To give thanks to the Lord, who has vouchsafed, on the day of the Cathedral commemoration of the Moscow saints, the flock of the Mother See to unite in a Moscow-wide Procession on a scale that has had no precedent in the Mother See since 1918.
2. To express my deep gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for the initiative to organize the Moscow-wide procession and for leading this prayer procession.
3. To express gratitude to the Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, the heads and employees of law enforcement agencies, medical and other city services, and social movements for their assistance in organizing the Moscow-wide procession.
4. To thank all the bishops, clergy, monastics and laity who took part in the Moscow-wide procession and showed visible unity, a special spirit of prayer, joy, benevolence and mutual support.
5. To emphasize that the large number of the Moscow-wide procession became an expression of the desire of believers to openly and publicly testify about their Orthodox faith.
6. To consider it important to restore the tradition of the annual Moscow-wide procession, which already has the consent and support of the Mayor of Moscow in response to the appeal of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
7. Recommend to the heads of metropolia and diocesan bishops to organize, where such a practice has not yet been established, annual city processions in the cathedral cities of dioceses or, at least, in the main cities of metropolia.
