On May 9, 2026, at the Fossvogur City Cemetery in Reykjavik, on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Nadezhda Memorial in memory of the sailors participating in the Arctic convoys, as well as at the graves of World War II veteran M.A. Mitrofanova and Soviet sailor A. Maley.
The ceremony was attended by employees of the Russian Embassy in Iceland, representatives of compatriots' organizations and local residents.
Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iceland S.H. Andriashin congratulated the participants of the ceremony on the Great Victory Day and addressed his compatriots with a welcoming speech on the occasion of the holiday.
Those present honored the memory of those who died during the war with a minute of silence. Rector of the St. Nicholas Stavropol Parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Reykjavik, Archpriest Timofey Zolotusky celebrated the funeral rite for the fallen soldiers.
The holiday ended with the traditional procession of the column of the "Immortal Regiment — Iceland" under the "Victory Day" march.
