In March 2026, repair and restoration work began on the roof of the headquarters of the Sretensky Church of the Transfiguration Monastery in Staraya Russa. They are scheduled to be completed no later than November 2026.
For many years, the ensemble of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery was in a neglected state. The facades and roof gradually deteriorated, and the exposition was last updated in 1974.
The comprehensive program developed by the Novgorod Museum with the support of the trustees, in addition to repair and restoration work, includes the re-exhibition of the art gallery and the equipping of the museum complex. Before starting work on the creation of a new exhibition of the art gallery, it was necessary to repair the wooden structures of the building. With funds from the Chernogolovka Group of Companies, a project was developed in 2025, and in March 2026, work began on repairing the roof of the main building of the Candlemas Church. The cost of these works is 4.81 million rubles. The ploughshare roof covering will be repaired with the replacement of the crate, parts of the rafter structures and supports for the rafters.
About 6.5 million rubles are required to complete all the work on preserving the roof of the Church of the Nativity, the bell tower and the Transfiguration Cathedral. The museum and its trustees will continue to seek additional funding.
The renovation of the stock equipment and storage systems of the Starorussky branch is currently being completed. A new storage facility for the Old Russian stock collection was fully equipped in the churchyard of the Candlemas Church. The total cost of the project was more than 4 million rubles. The financing was provided by Gazprom Mergregiongaz LLC.
