The selection stage of the Orthodox icon painting contest "Canon" took place in correctional colony No. 1 in the Altai Republic.

The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), together with the Synodal Department of the Russian Orthodox Church for Prison Service, the Public Council at the FSIN and the Board of Trustees of the Penal Correction System, annually conducts an All-Russian review of the religious activities of convicts "Not by number, but by humility."
As reported in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Altai Republic, this year a competition "Canon" is being held within the framework of the review. In IK-1, self-taught artists who developed their talent in places of detention participate in it. The priest blessed them to paint icons.

The best work will be sent to the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for further evaluation and participation in the exhibition at international Christmas readings. They will be held in Moscow from January 24 to 27, 2024.
