An interactive lesson was held at the Sunday school at the Church of St. John the Ladder in Cape Town (South Africa) on December 10, 2023.
On the eve of the celebration of the day of memory of the Great Martyr Barbara (her memory on December 17), the pupils of the school learned about the life and feat of the saint.
St. Demetrius of Rostov in the Four Minions tells how St. Barbara ordered the builders to arrange a third window in the new bathhouse, "so that one of them represented the Father, the other the Son, the third the Holy Spirit, so that the walls themselves glorified the Name of the Holy Trinity."
Thus, many builders and architects venerate the Great Martyr Barbara as their heavenly patroness.
Therefore, the children in the classroom tried themselves as builders and assembled a gingerbread gingerbread house with their own hands, decorating it for the Christmas holiday.

This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

By the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen and the Holy Synod of March 3, 1976, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy and Seminary, was elected Bishop of Vyborg, vicar of the Leningrad Diocese.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
