From January 22 to 25, 2025, a delegation led by the chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, Priest Georgy Maximov, and the executive director of the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage, E.I. Skopenko, visited Tanzania. The trip focused on supporting Orthodox educational and church initiatives.

On January 23, the delegation visited an Orthodox educational center in Kisarawe, where they met with teachers and students. The center’s director, Priest Constantine Shoki, gave a tour of the classrooms and the house church dedicated to Saint Nina. The foundation has been providing financial support to this institution, and discussions were held regarding its future development.

On the same day, the delegation met with the Russian ambassador to Tanzania, A.L. Avetisyan, and the director of the Russian House in Dar es Salaam, A.A. Evstigneev. They discussed the status of Russian Orthodoxy in the region and future missionary initiatives.

On January 24, the delegation traveled to the city of Bukoba. Accompanied by the dean of the Northern District, Priest Peter Mayune, they visited the parish of Saints Cosmas and Damian in the village of Omugaiwale. With the foundation’s support, plans are underway to build a kindergarten and a school in honor of Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril. The parish priest, Father Cosmas Bonface, showed the land allocated for construction. Additionally, the parish received assistance for the completion of the church’s interior decoration.

On January 25, Father Georgy Maximov met with Priest Peter Mayune to discuss parish life in the Northern Deanery. He also had a conversation with the leader of a non-Orthodox Christian community from Musoma, who expressed a desire to join Orthodoxy.

Later that day, the delegation visited the Church of the Holy Martyr Constantine of Bogorodsk in Bukoba. This parish was established after local residents were baptized in Lake Victoria by Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraisk a year ago. The parishioners built the first Orthodox church in the city themselves, where they welcomed the delegation and were led in a thanksgiving service by Priest Seraphim Simba. He expressed hope for the parish’s continued growth.

The visit concluded with a meeting between Father Georgy and the dean of the Central Church District, Archimandrite Philaret (Kimaro), in Dar es Salaam, where they discussed the district’s activities and ongoing missionary efforts.
